Harrisburg, PA -  Victor Masino recorded a hat trick and Matt Schwakoff chipped in with three assists to lead Rutgers past Stony Brook 5-2 in the season opening games for both squads.

Rutgers got off to a hot start, scoring two quick goals to take and early 2-0 lead. Matt Schwakoff got things going, first with a nice pass to Victor Masino for an easy tap in goal and then shortly later hitting a streaking Chris Notely who fired one over the glove and into the back of the net.

After a defensive start to the second period, both teams got into penalty trouble and exchanged a pair of power play goals. Rutgers scored first, with Jared Reisman hitting the wide open goal off a beautiful feed from TJ Murphy. Stony Brook finally got on the board shortly later after moving the puck well with the man advantage. Tom D'Ancona found the net for the Seawolves off a Tom Cartwright feed to cut the lead to 3-1.

Matt Schwakoff tallied his third assist of the game when he found Victor Masino for the second time this game to put Rutgers back on top 4-1. Tom Cartwright got on the board with a rocket of a slap shot that found iron and the back of the net to cut the Rutgers lead in half in the closing minutes of the second period.

Victor Masino scored on a breakaway midway through the third to regain a three goal lead. After making a outstanding move to deke out the goal, all Masino had to do was slide the puck into the net and he didn't miss.
