The 2007-2008 season for the Towson University Tigers Roller Hockey is underway. With training camp beginning the first weekend of classes, returning players welcomed many fresh faces to the program and were excited to see the largest turnout in club history. Coach Kevin Murphy returns as he leads the Division 1 and B teams to another run at excellence, driven by the same tradition and excitement of years past.
The Tigers opened competitive play at the Columbus Day Kickoff Pre-Season event in Feasterville, Pennsylvania. The weekend concluded as the D1 and B teams finished at 2-1 with very solid play from both squads. The Tigers clicked all weekend and will undoubtedly continue to do so as time progresses.
The Division 1 team returns a number of key players from last year who will keep the Tigers rolling this season. Forwards Josh Stein (East Williston, NY), Dane Houser (Chadds Ford, PA), and Ryan Cowdell (Holtsville, NY) will spark the Tigers offense, while returning defenseman Keith Huffman (Secane, PA) provides a solid veteran presence at the blue line. New to the team are forwards Joe OBrien (Bellmore, NY), former Towson Ice Hockey player Keith Laxman (Tuxedo Park, NY), along with defensemen Brett Boss (Centreville, VA), Dan Stewart (Glenelg, MD), Mike Inge (Succasunna, NJ), and Cory Twibell (Westbury, NY).
The Tigers B team features returning players Zach Siskind (West Chester, PA), Mike Linker (Reisterstown, MD), and Cory Greenberg (Merrick, NY). Stepping into the program are Mike Tierce (Voorhees, NJ), Mike Johnson (Marlton, NJ), Anthony Vertullo (Suffern, NY), and Anthony Rosato (Plainview, NY). Mike Burke (Massapequa, NY) will serve between the pipes this year for the Tigers.
The Tigers are looking to follow up on a successful season and a trip to nationals for both squads last year. Check back at www.towsonrollerhockey.com or visit www.ecrha.net to follow the Tigers when they begin regular season play October 27th.
