Stony Brook Prepares to Play Vermont

The Stony Brook Seawolves DII squad were in desperate need of some big games this past weekend at home in Old Bethpage, NY. The Seawolves were coming off some tough games in Glastonbury, CT on Nov. 5 and 6 against Maine, Vermont, Drexel, and Wentworth, coming away with only 3 out of a possible 8 points.
Returning home proved to be what the club needed to get back on track after a successful pre-season. The 'Wolves went undefeated in play, tallying a total of 32 goals for and only 7 against, winning contests against a talented Hofstra club, Albany, Vermont, and Briarcliffe. A positive for the Seawolves was that three different starting goalies were able to get wins for their club, showing their depth between the pipes. Scoring was also spread out, as interim Captain Ryan Keane (filling in for the injured Damon Vetere) was able to break out of his scoring slump and jump out as one of the top scorers for the weekend.
Stony Brook finds itself second to only Neumann in Division II at this point, and have their sites set on Harrisburg, PA, where they get a shot at the Central and Southern Conferences, with teams such as Shippensburg, Millersville, and last season's rival Duquesne.

Weekend Highlights:

Joe Tamburino returned behind the bench after he was unable to attend the Glastonbury tournament last weekend. He is now 6-1 as head coach this season, with his only loss coming to the ECRHA DI champion Towson Tigers, captained by his brother, Jim Tamburino.

Nick Gullo pitched his second shutout of the season, defeating Briarcliffe 7-0.

Tom Cartwright recorded back-to-back hat tricks against Hofstra and Albany.

Erik Curran was named the third Alternate Captain this weekend. He joins Ryan Keane and Jim Hoffman, who also will be wearing the A this season.
