Something To Prove

ECRHA  March 30th, 2006 at 6:00AM  March 30th, 2006 7:47PM
With the memories of being runners up in last year?s 2004 - 2005 Regional tournament the Tigers wanted to prove they belonged as champions this year. Towson University ?B? Team came out firing on all cylinders at the ECRHA Regional tournament.  In the opening round robin games the Tigers went 2-0 cruising past both Pittsburgh and Binghamton.  When the elimination games started up Towson faced off against a gritty Drexel squad, who the Tigers took care of by a score of 7-2.  In the semifinal game Towson saw Rutgers, a team who had beaten Towson earlier in regular season play.  At the drop of the puck the crowd knew they we be in for an exciting game.  After three periods, both the Tigers and Scarlet Knights were tied at three goals apiece; the game went into sudden death overtime.  A minute into overtime Towson capitalized on a Rutgers turnover and won to receive a berth to their second straight ECRHA championship game.  When the championship game started the Tigers were facing off against a familiar opponent, the Suffolk CCC Lighthouses.  The same team to win the past two ECRHA ?B? Division titles and beat Towson in last year in the Regional Championship.  Putting up a tough fight Towson once again was defeated by the Lighthouses with a score of 9 -5.

While being second place in the ECRHA has its down sides it also has its up sides. Due to a great regular season the Tigers gained their second straight bid to NCRHA Nationals. With two straight second place ECRHA Regional finishes the young Tigers (7 first year players) will head to Morrisville, NC to Nationals with something to prove to the college roller hockey world.  Towson will open up the national tournament with Colorado State, Western Michigan, and University of St. Louis Meramec.  Keeping in mind the ECRHA Regional trophy has eluded them twice; Towson will be aiming for a NCRHA National Title.  The question is can the Tigers make a run for it all, stay tuned and find out!
