Seawolves Play Hard, Earn First Win
ECRHA November 9th, 2005 at 10:57PM November 9th, 2005 11:01PMThings haven't been easy for the Stony Brook Seawolves in their first season in the ECRHA. The team fought hard in the first regular season even in Bethpage, NY, but injuries to key players such as Mike Pfeifer and Pete Gugliotta shortened the bench and hurt the Seawolves offense, as Stony Brook only came away with one point for the event. With a need for some offense, the Seawolves added some offensive firepower, such as forwards Ryan Keane and Steve Zawalich. With a new roster and head coach in Joe Tamburino, the Seawolves battled a tough Albany team, losing 7-5. Penalties hurt SBU in their second game vs. Wentworth, taking the game to the third period at 3-2, but eventually dropping the contest 7-3. Sunday, however, the Seawolves luck would change, as they battled Maine in the morning. The 'Wolves has a 1-0 lead late in the game, but Maine pulled their goalie and tied the game with only :08 seconds left in the third. Later that day Stony Brook played Vermont, and earned their first win in club history, with a score of 5-2. Great goaltending by Erik Topalian and John Reich (who would leave the tournamnet early with a knee injury), and the offensive punch of Ryan Keane and Matt Licata helped the 'Wolves in a successful weekend. Stony Brook looks forward to a conference event, where they will face Duquesne, Briarcliffe, PSU New Kensington, and Hofstra.
